New Zealand 2000 This was the first visit to the "Land of the Long White Cloud " and after a very long flight we were met at Christchurch airport by Ian Murphy who drove us over the Southern Alps to Greymouth on the wild west coast. The club was being run by Ian and his friend Ken Kangga who was and had been the towns Judo coach for many years. Ken and his partner Loraine were our hosts for the time in New Zealand and although we had not met before they were the perfect hosts, it was most certainly home from home. We worked very hard during our time out there and we were in the dojo both during the day teaching Ken and Ian and in the evening we were gainfully employed teaching the members. Unfortunately Ken passed away in October 2001 he will be sadly missed by everyone and the club's success will be a tribute to his memory. A return visit is planned for 2004.
