Belgium (
March):
We found out that our Belgium friends
at Yokio
Tani Aalst were celebrating their clubs 20 th. birthday and
we decided, almost on a whim, that we’d go along and help. We
set off a little after lunch on Saturday afternoon and by very early
evening we were in the town.
 |
Only one other person
knew that we were attending, Peter Thoon from Oostend, so he
met us at our hotel and drove us the short distance to the venue.
Walking in was good fun and we all enjoyed the surprise, the
evening was a typical Belgium bash and the following day we had
to drive back to England via the “Shuttle”. Another
great weekend with our friends, what a way to start the year
off!!!

Northumberland (March)
Our flight left Stansted just before 08:00 in the morning getting
us into Newcastle for 09:00 . collect the hire car and away.
Straight to Hexham and the best little breakfast café we
know of. From here we travelled into Carlisle to pay our respects
to Geoff Hodgson who passed away a little before the Christmas
and then back to Haltwhistle, a town that claims to be the very
centre of Great Britain . We had a great weekend there working
with the club members, senior and junior working with the syllabus
and a little extra as well. We left on Sunday for the flight
home and fought our way through a snow storm.

Belgium
(April)
Back we go to Belgium , this time with
a coach and many of our members and friends , Jimmy and Steve McDade
and many of their members, Jorn Johannson and our members from far
and near.
|
This was our
annual trip to the Yoshimi course and not to be missed by many
of our own members. Out on the town on Friday night, course and
party on Saturday and then off back to the ferry on Sunday. This
is always a busy weekend but always one packed full of fun, it
is one of the few opportunities we all have to spend time with
our friends from Denmark, Hungary, Holland, France and France,
the weekend is always popular with everyone.
|
The Kent Course (June)
Our international where we play host to
all our friends, this year they came from Ireland , Hungary , Belgium
, Denmark and Spain .
To make the weekend a little different we added
a competition into the format and it proved very popular with
several of our overseas friends taking trophies home with them.
The competition made the day longer but the enjoyment more exciting
especially for the spectators. The day ended with us all meeting
at a local restaurant where the festivities last well into the
following day.

The Will Adams Festival ,
(September )
The festival continues to go from strength to strength and
this year we had the added inclusion of two gentlemen from Japan
with their students as well as 50 students from Chaucer College
at the University of Canterbury who not only performed in the
martial arts displays but also traditional folk dances as well.
This year was the largest festival to date and the one with the
biggest public attendance. There were more stands this year where
members of the public could try traditional Japanese handicrafts
like calligraphy, sushi making and how to wear a kimono. The
festival is now on the map and a great way to spend a day in
Kent .

Presentation
Night ,
(October )
Another year passes, this was our 34
th. year, how many martial arts club, groups or associations
can boast that they have been going for this long. The
trouble with this fact is that we’re all getting
older as well, but it doesn’t stop us enjoying what
we have. Here are too many more years to come and the fun
that goes with them.

Association Competition,
(October )
By popular demand we held another competition
this month with huge support, 34 categories and 78 members
taking part was good but the support from parents, family’s
friends and non-participating members was even better.
The seating was full with people standing wherever they
could, the three mats were occupied all of the time and
the officials worked like demons to manage the categories
in time. The popularity of competition is back and while
it is we will have many more . |

New Zealand ,
(November/December)
Yes we went back, the Ian’s asked and how could
we refuse !!! To be honest we would use any excuse we could.
The Ju Jitsu was just a few days this time and we drove
2500 Km. Sightseeing from Whale Watching & swimming
with Dolphins in Kiakoura to Bungee jumping, Jet Boating
and Canyon Surfing in Queenstown we did it all and the
best bit, well that was seeing Murph (Ian Murphy) gain
his Nidan and Hauss (Ian Haussmann) pass his Shodan. Both
Ian’s came with us on the trips, a few days before
the Ju Jitsu and a week after, what a great way to finish
off the year.
